Safer Internet Day 2024: GS Nyirarukobwa Community celebrated Safer Internet Day 2024
Today on 6 February 2024, GS Nyirarukobwa Community joined the world to celebrate Safer Internet day 2024 with the theme “Promoting personal accountability for a constructive internet atmosphere“.
The event brought together students, parents, teachers, Church Leaders, local government leaders (Village, cell, sector and district), Rwanda Investigation Bureau – Bugesera District to encourage everyone to play their part in creating a better internet for young People.
The theme for this year, “Promoting personal accountability for a constructive Internet atmosphere, ” underscores the key personal responsibilities in creating a conducive online environment for children to learn and innovate. It underpins the need for a secure and trustworthy Internet for children, highlighting available laws and policies for children online protection and encouraged everyone to play their part to ensure child online safety.
Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) in Bugesera district highlighted the prevalence of cybercrimes in the district, paying much emphasis on mobile transactions. They stressed the need for vigilance, particularly among students and parents, cautioning against tactics used by hackers to steal passwords and perpetrate financial theft and emphasised the importance of proactive measures and informed decision-making in safeguarding against cyber threats and promoting responsible internet usage.
Jacques Gashumba, Director of Education in Bugesera District, highlighted positive impact they got from projects implemented by ISOC Rwanda to foster digital transformation in schools and surrounding community schools.
During this event,GS Nyirarukobwa awarded winners of a school based scratch programming competition and a teacher who leveraged ICT in his teaching activities to improve students’ performance.
Safer Internet Day celebration activities will be conducted in 4 schools supported by ISOC Rwanda to promote the use of the Internet in teaching and learning processes.
